The Angel series was inspired by a visit to St. Michael and All Angels church in Barton Turf, Norfolk, England in 2010.
The fifteenth century church has rood screens at the altar depicting the nine orders of angels . Clergy and saints are also painted on the screens, some of which were defaced during the reformation and never repaired. The angels, many with six wings, have elongated feet and dramatic feathered attire. Symbols depicting their attributes accompany each image. All appear to be feminine, despite the traditional male gender of archangels Michael and Raphael.
